What do we do when we have a weekend without the kids?

We scurry back up to the land and squeeze in a bit of work and play!
Picture
First things first- clean the chimney- its gettin chilly!
Picture
Split some wood by this spectacular morning sun!
Next - Andres had the wonderful idea of enjoying some spa time together - Maslowski style ;)
Picture
First, we gathered some sticks (stay with me ;-)
Picture
Then we built a dome
Picture
Covered it with blankets
Picture
And a tarp - will beautify this eventually, we were just too excited to get inside...
Picture
Where we made it nice and cozy
Picture
To enjoy the steam from the hot rocks we placed in the center! And did it ever get steamy ;-) ;-)
Picture
Our rustic, makeshift sauna based on Native American sweat lodge design. All enjoyed under this incredible full Harvest Moon.

Then the real fun began!

We turned this space....

Into this!

And managed to organize some of the harvest here.

A perfect balance of productivity and respite. With some magical moments gifted by nature that truly took my breath away.  Was strange to be away from our girls for a long weekend but needed and definitely enjoyed.  As always, our endless gratitude to our family, friends and Mother Nature of course!

Greetings Sophia and Andre,

I'm so happy for you that you're making progress towards moving to that lovely land.

The beauty of those rolling hills, little glens, glades and the glorious range of warm autumnal forest hues show well in your photos - thank you.

Bancroft is very charming indeed and yes is one of the most beautiful areas of the country. So many types of trees in the vast mosaics of woods on thousands of hills, laden with lakes and streams with little hillside farms and enchanting winding laneways here and there...

I appreciate that you are doing your best to harmoniously be as light on the land as you can, with minimal disruption to other species and habitats.

I'm hoping to see more updates about everything there. ..Wish I was there visiting and helping you now but your posts here are the next best thing. Thank you for sharing all this with everyone!

Hi Danny!
Thank you so much for your message and encouragement! We are so delighted that you enjoy seeing the progress in our project. I'm curious, how did you find us?

I fantasize about posting more consistently. I will try more this year :)

Hope you are well and have had a great start to the new year! Happy 2021!

You're welcome, Sophia. I do look forward to new posts if and when you create them.

The place I found you was the listing on Goodwork.ca while I searched for permanent or long-term opportunities. Then from there, I hopped on to this website of yours and enjoyed your photos and learning about your activities at that budding homestead somewhere around Bancroft. It's been inspiring!

Happy new year to you all too,

Danny

p.s. I meant Andres not Andre, btw. No accent symbols are on this keyboard that I can find, oh well.
